MOBILE PHONE TAKEOVER OF HUMAN LIFE

These two works are inspired by the mobile phone and our total immersion in it.

THE MANDROID

This work was inspired by an exhibition Sangeeta saw in London, projecting into the future. A lot of the displays showed the human body merging with technologies to enhance its functions. The Mandroid is also a work in Cubist style, using fragmented body components to create unity. His one eye has a YouTube icon, his other, an Instagram camera icon. His hands are viritually blended into his mobile phone – the work is rich in showing how much an extension of our phones we have become. His collar is studded with icons of popular apps and social media platforms.

SELFINA: THE ROARING 20S

The lady is modeled on a flapper seen in a Spanish Cubist work, her fashion and style harking back to the 1920s. But her mobile phone and her selfie stance belong to the 2020s. This is a time when young women are so self-absorbed with their selfies, or editing their photos, that they often miss meeting their soulmates! In Selfina’s case, she misses seeing The Mandroid, her soulmate! The title, SELFINA, THE ROARING 20S is a play on the 1920s meeting the 2020s in one image.
